It revives the spirit of the legendary SKX line from Seiko’s “5 Sports” family, maintaining its rugged charm while adding modern refinements. The hands are sharper now, the applied indices more sculpted, yet the overall silhouette remains faithful. Topper notes that this model is a “tribute to the original Seiko 5 Sports” that traces its roots back to the SKX divers.

Movement & Performance

Inside its 42.5 mm stainless steel case (about 13.9 mm thick), Seiko installs its automatic Caliber 4R36 movement. You get self-winding motion, manual winding capability, day/date complication, and a respectable ~41 hours of power reserve. The balance beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and is set with 24 jewels. These are solid specs for everyday wear.

Design & Materials

The SRPL87 stands out thanks to its vibrant yellow dial, contrasted with richly textured indices and luminous hands and markers for legibility. A unidirectional rotating bezel, with a glossy Hardlex insert, frames the dial — echoing SKX diving heritage. The crystal is Seiko’s curved Hardlex. On the wrist, this SRPL87 uses a black silicone strap (rubber-type) with a steel buckle. Caseback is transparent, letting you catch glimpses of the movement at work.
