The SRPL81 takes Seiko’s proven King Turtle case and gives it a JAWS tribute that actually works. Blue-white ombre dial captures that famous water scene, JAWS logo at 6 o’clock. Limited to 5,000 pieces, 200m water resistance. Movie tie-in done right.

Seiko SRPL81: The JAWS Watch That Actually Gets It Right

Movie tie-in watches tend to go one of two ways: subtle to the point of meaningless, or gaudy enough to make you cringe. The SRPL81 threads the needle. Seiko took their proven King Turtle case—the 45mm diver that’s become a forum favorite—and dressed it in a JAWS tribute that collectors are actually wearing.

That Dial

The blue-to-white ombre gradient isn’t just pretty; it’s the ocean surface from below, the perspective right before things go wrong in the movie. The JAWS logo sits at 6 o’clock—present but not screaming at you. LumiBrite indices and hands make this usable as an actual diver, not just a display piece. The day-date window at 3 o’clock includes Seiko’s dual English/Kanji option, which remains one of their cooler details.

The King Turtle Platform

Under the movie theming, this is still a serious tool watch. The case hits 45mm but wears shorter thanks to 47.7mm lug-to-lug. At 13.2mm thick with a cushion-case shape, it sits well on wrist. The ceramic bezel insert adds durability and that deeper blue color that complements the dial. Sapphire crystal with a cyclops over the date—a welcome upgrade from the hardlex on standard Turtles.

Inside: The 4R36

Seiko’s workhorse automatic with hacking and hand-winding. Not a chronometer, but reliable and easy to service—exactly what you want in a watch you might actually take diving. The 41-hour power reserve is adequate, not impressive. It’s an honest movement for an honest price.

The Collector’s Angle

Limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide, each with a serial number on the caseback. That caseback features the Orca (the boat) and a shark fin breaking the surface—details that matter to JAWS fans. The deep blue silicone strap makes sense for both the theme and actual water use. It comes in a collector’s box, which you’ll probably keep.

Who It’s For

JAWS fans who want something wearable, not costume jewelry. Turtle collectors looking for something different. Anyone who appreciates a movie collaboration that respects both the source material and the watch underneath. At this price point for a sapphire-equipped limited edition Prospex diver, it’s a reasonable ask.
