Seiko’s 5 Sports line carries on what the SKX started—accessible dive-style watches with real automatic movements. The SRPL85 delivers: 4R36 caliber with hacking and hand-winding, 100-meter water resistance, and that unidirectional bezel. A solid entry point for mechanical watch enthusiasts.
About The Product
Seiko SRPL85: The 5 Sports Carries the Torch
When Seiko discontinued the SKX, forums mourned. The 5 Sports line stepped up to fill that gap—not an exact replacement, but a worthy successor. The SRPL85 takes the dive-watch formula that made Seiko famous and updates it with modern specs while keeping the price accessible.
What’s Under the Crystal
The 4R36 automatic isn’t going to win chronometer competitions, but it offers something the old 7S26 didn’t: hacking seconds and manual winding. That means you can set the time precisely and keep it running if you don’t wear it daily. 21,600 vph, 24 jewels, 41-hour power reserve—the specs that matter for daily wear.
Built for the Water (and Everything Else)
The 100-meter rating won’t satisfy hardcore divers, but it’s more than enough for swimming, snorkeling, and not worrying about rain. The unidirectional bezel clicks with purpose, and the LumiBrite on the hands and indices actually glows. Curved Hardlex crystal sits over a black dial with day-date at 3 o’clock.
The Honest Take
At 42.5mm and 13.9mm thick, this wears like a proper dive watch—present but not overwhelming. The stainless steel bracelet has a fold-over clasp with secure lock. It’s not an SKX resurrection, but it doesn’t need to be. The SRPL85 stands on its own as an affordable automatic with real dive-watch DNA.
