Seiko SRPL73: The Style60’s Dial That Earns Its Price

The Presage Style60’s line reimagines the spirit of Seiko’s 1964 Crown Chronograph, and the SRPL73 is one of the more interesting entries. The silver-violet dial is the kind of thing you have to see in person — photos flatten it, but on the wrist, the multi-layer construction creates depth that shifts between silver, lavender, and subtle violet depending on the lighting.

The Dial

This is where Seiko spent the money, and it shows. The multi-layer dial uses a deep pressed pattern under a metallic finish, framed by a coordinating bezel. Faceted polished indices catch light at angles that give the watch more visual weight than its 39.5mm case would suggest. LumiBrite on the hands and markers handles low-light legibility. The date window at 3 o’clock is cleanly integrated.

Movement: The 4R35

Inside is Seiko’s 4R35 — a 23-jewel automatic that hacks and handwinds, running at 21,600 vph with approximately 41 hours of power reserve. It’s visible through the screw-down exhibition caseback. Not the prettiest movement to display, but functional and proven. Accuracy is rated at +45/-35 seconds per day.

On the Wrist

At 39.5mm wide and 12mm thick, with a 46.2mm lug-to-lug, the SRPL73 wears well on medium-sized wrists. The box-shaped Hardlex crystal adds character and a slight vintage feel. The multi-row stainless steel bracelet with a tri-fold push button clasp is comfortable and well-finished for the price. Water resistance is 50 meters — adequate for a dress-casual piece.

The Verdict

The SRPL73 is for anyone who appreciates Seiko’s dial-making prowess and wants something that doesn’t look like every other automatic under $600. The silver-violet color is distinctive without being difficult to wear, and the Style60’s design language gives it mid-century charm without cosplaying as a vintage piece.
