Timex puts a waffle-textured black dial under a stationary black bezel and hangs it on a two-tone bracelet. It is a 45mm quartz three-hander with a date at three, and the gold-tone markers do the work the plain steel case deliberately does not.
About The Product
Timex TW2Y89100 Weston: Two-Tone That Isn’t Trying Too Hard
Two-tone got a bad reputation in the 1990s, and most of the watches that earned it deserved it. The Weston is the counter-argument. Timex kept the case in plain brushed and polished steel, kept the dial black, and spent the gold only where it registers: the centre links, the crown, the markers, and the minute scale ringing a stationary black bezel. The result reads as considered rather than loud, which is not what most watches at this end of the market manage.
A Dial Worth Looking At Twice
The black dial carries a fine waffle texture that only shows up when light hits it at an angle, and the gold-tone baton markers and hands sit above it with real separation. There is a date window beside three o’clock and a printed inner 24-hour track, both handled quietly. The hands and markers are luminant, which is more than you usually get on a watch built to look dressy.
The 45mm Question
This is a big watch. At 45mm across with 22mm lugs, the Weston wears every millimetre it claims, and anyone under about a 7-inch wrist should think hard before committing. The saving grace is the 11.5mm case depth, which is slim enough that the watch slides under a cuff instead of fighting it. Consider the size a deliberate choice rather than an oversight.
Quartz, Mineral, and No Pretending
A Japanese quartz movement drives it, mineral glass protects it, and 50 metres of water resistance covers hand-washing and rain rather than swimming laps. None of that is exotic, and Timex is not pretending otherwise. What you get instead is a watch that keeps time to within seconds a month, needs nothing from you but a battery every few years, and costs what a strap costs on some brands.
Who It Is For
Someone who wants a large, legible, slightly formal watch on a bracelet and likes the warmth two-tone adds. If you want a small dress watch or a sapphire crystal, this is not it. If you want an easy watch to put on with a jacket and stop thinking about, the Weston does that job well.
