Timex gave the Weston a waffle-textured green dial and a matching green bezel ring, then wrapped it in a 45mm steel case on a brushed bracelet. The yellow seconds hand is the detail that stops it being just another green watch.
About The Product
Timex TW2Y89000 Weston: A Green Dial With Something to Say
Green dials have been having a long moment, and most of the affordable ones settle for a flat coat of paint. The Weston does not. Timex pressed a fine waffle grid into this one, so the surface breaks up light instead of swallowing it, and ringed it with a green bezel insert carrying a full 60-minute scale. At 45mm it is a lot of watch, and Timex is not pretending otherwise.
The Dial Does the Work
Look closely and there are three layers going on: the waffle-textured centre, a stepped chapter ring with an inner 24-hour track, and applied baton markers that pick up light against the darker green. The date sits beside three o’clock in a small framed aperture. Then there is the yellow seconds hand, which has no business working as well as it does against green, and does anyway. Hands and markers carry lume, so it reads in the dark.
All Steel, No Shortcuts
The case is a cushion rather than a circle, with flat flanks at three and nine and the bracelet lugs folded into its corners. Case and bracelet are stainless steel throughout, brushed on the flats and polished on the flanks, closing with a folding deployant clasp. It is 11.5mm thick with 22mm lugs and 50m water resistance, which covers rain, sinks and a swim but not diving. The caseback is a plain screwed disc stamped with the Timex logo. Worth noting: the two-tone version of this watch is a different reference, TW2Y89100, and it wears a black dial rather than this green.
Quartz, and That Is the Point
Inside is a Japanese quartz movement, Timex calibre 203, running off an SR626SW cell. There is no romance in that and none is being sold. It means the watch keeps better time than anything mechanical near this price, needs nothing from you but a battery every few years, and puts the budget into the dial and the bracelet instead of the movement.
Who It Suits
You need the wrist for it. At 45mm with 22mm lugs this wears large, and the cushion case makes it read wider still. If you have the room, it is a lot of finished watch for the money, and the green is genuinely well done rather than novelty green. If you want the same watch in something more conventional, the blue is TW2Y88900.
