Timex’s take on the classic pilot’s chronograph, and the green sunray dial is the version worth arguing over. Meca-quartz inside, so the chronograph seconds hand sweeps and snaps back to zero instead of stuttering its way around the dial.

Timex TW2Y19100: A Pilot’s Chronograph That Doesn’t Ask for Swiss Money

Timex built the Waterbury Ace around a shape watch people already know by heart — tall Arabic numerals, a triangle at twelve, a broad knurled crown flanked by rectangular pushers. Gear Patrol called the line an affordable take on the definitive high-end pilot’s watch, and that comparison is the whole point. The TW2Y19100 is the green-dial version on a brushed steel bracelet, and the green is what keeps it from reading as a tribute.

The Green Sunray Is Doing the Work

A black pilot dial reads as costume. Green sunray reads as a choice. Under direct light it opens toward olive; indoors it collapses to something close to black, which is when the cream Arabic numerals and luminous hands earn their keep. The date sits at six o’clock, tucked under the CHRONOGRAPH 100m/330ft line instead of interrupting a numeral. Timex also dropped the signature Waterbury ‘W’ counterweight from the chronograph hand here, which sounds like nothing until you see how much cleaner the dial runs without it.

Meca-Quartz, Not Just Quartz

This is the spec worth understanding. A meca-quartz movement keeps time on a battery but drives the chronograph through a mechanical module. In practice that means the chronograph seconds hand sweeps rather than ticks, and it snaps back to zero the instant you reset. It is the same trick that made the Seiko VK series a favorite among people building affordable chronographs, and it is the main reason this watch feels costlier than the battery inside it suggests.

Living With 41mm

At 41mm across and 9.5mm thick, the Ace is flatter than most chronographs, which matters more day to day than the diameter — it slides under a cuff. The 20mm bracelet uses quick-release spring bars and self-adjustable links, so sizing it does not require a trip anywhere, and the butterfly clasp keeps the underside clean. All in, it lands around 139 grams.

The Honest Version

The crystal is mineral, not sapphire. It will collect fine scratches over a few years, and that is what the price buys. The case is rated to 100m, but Timex is clear that you should not work the pushers underwater. If you want a pilot chronograph you will actually wear without babying it, this is that watch. If you want something to keep pristine, spend more elsewhere.
