A triple calendar and a moon phase on a 40mm Marlin case: day, date, month and a lunar disc laid out on a green sunray dial behind domed acrylic. Quartz, so the calendar costs you a battery instead of a service bill.
About The Product
Timex TW2W51000: A Moon Phase Marlin That Skips the Four-Figure Price
Moon phase watches usually live a couple of rungs further up the ladder. The TW2W51000 puts one on a 40mm Marlin case alongside a full day-date-month calendar, and charges quartz money for it. Timex added the Moon Phase Multifunction to the Marlin line in 2024, and it is the busiest dial the collection has ever carried.
Four Displays, One Dial
The layout reads clockwise from nine: day of the week on the left sub-dial, the date on an arc at twelve, the month on the right, and the moon disc down at six. The sub-dial rings are recessed and the indices are applied rather than printed, so the dial has real depth to it. The green sunray finish is the reason to pick this one over its siblings, shifting from near-black to a clear bottle green as it catches light.
There’s a Pusher, and You Should Know Why
A single pusher sits at two o’clock and advances the month; the crown handles everything else. It is an unusual arrangement, and worth understanding before you buy. A triple calendar needs resetting whenever the watch sits unworn for a while, and this one takes two controls to get there rather than one.
Vintage Case, Vintage Crystal
The case is polished stainless steel, 40mm across and 12mm thick, on 20mm lugs with a brown crocodile-patterned leather band. The crystal is domed acrylic, which is the standard Marlin choice. Acrylic scratches more easily than mineral glass, but scuffs polish out with a cloth, and it bends light at the edges in a way sapphire never does. That distortion is the whole point of a vintage-styled watch.
Who Should Buy It
Someone who wants a complicated-looking dial without a mechanical service bill attached. The moon phase here is a quartz calendar module, not a geared mechanical complication, so if that distinction matters to you this is the wrong watch. Water resistance is 50m, fine for rain and hand-washing but not for laps, and Timex is clear that the pusher stays untouched when it is wet. What you get is a well-proportioned 40mm dress-leaning watch with more to look at than almost anything else near the price.
