The Seiko SMGG21 brings the Rotocall back with its blue rotating mode bezel, gray digital display, and compact 37mm steel case. The A824 quartz module keeps the original idea tactile: turn the bezel, choose the function, use the watch.

Seiko SMGG21: The Blue-Bezel Rotocall Reissue

The Seiko SMGG21 revives one of Seiko’s most unusual digital designs. The original Rotocall used a rotating bezel as the mode selector, and this reissue keeps that satisfying mechanical interaction at the center of the watch.

A Digital Watch With a Bezel You Actually Use

Instead of cycling through modes by memorizing button presses, the SMGG21 lets you rotate the bezel to time, timer, counter, dual time, alarm, and setting functions. It is simple, tactile, and very different from most modern digital watches.

Compact Steel Case, Blue Accents

The 37.0mm stainless steel case wears smaller than the bold display suggests, with a 10.6mm thickness and 43.5mm lug-to-lug. The blue bezel panels, gray digital display, steel bracelet, Hardlex crystal, screw case back, and 10 bar water resistance keep it practical without losing the archive-inspired look.

The A824 Module

Inside is Seiko’s A824 quartz caliber, rated to +/-20 seconds per month with about three years of battery life. It covers the useful digital basics: chronograph up to 100 hours, alarm, dual time, battery-life warning, and the rotary switch interface that gives the Rotocall its name.

The Bottom Line

The SMGG21 is for someone who wants a digital Seiko with history and a genuinely different control layout. It is not trying to beat a modern G-Shock on features. It is a compact steel Rotocall reissue with a blue-bezel personality and a very specific point of view.
