Citizen shrank the Navihawk to 40mm and kept the working slide rule on the blue bezel. Eco-Drive B620 means no batteries, sapphire up front, 200m of water resistance, and a Blue Angels insignia on the caseback.

Citizen CA4667-53L: The Navihawk Finally Comes Down to 40mm

Citizen has licensed the Blue Angels name for years, and most of those watches wore big – 44mm and up, because that is what a slide-rule pilot chronograph was supposed to be. The CA4667-53L is the interesting one: a 40mm case with the full Promaster Air package intact – rotating slide-rule bezel, three chronograph registers, date, and the squadron’s blue-and-yellow colorway. If you liked the idea of a Navihawk but not the wrist presence, this is the version worth looking at.

A Slide Rule You Can Actually Read

Shrinking a slide rule usually ruins it – the scales get cramped and the whole thing turns decorative. Citizen handled it by putting the outer scale on a blue ion-plated bidirectional bezel with a coin-edge grip and keeping the inner scale in yellow on the dial flange. The contrast does the work. Yellow on blue is far easier to track across a rotating scale than the engraved silver-on-silver you get on most pilot chronographs, and the coin edge means you can turn it without pinching.

Eco-Drive B620: No Battery, No Excuses

The B620 is a solar-charged quartz chronograph – 1/5-second timing up to 60 minutes, a 12/24-hour subdial, and a date window between four and five o’clock. Citizen has been building Eco-Drive since 1976, so this is not a novelty. Light through the sapphire keeps it running, and the tradeoff is honest: quartz accuracy and no service interval instead of a sweeping seconds hand.

Built Heavier Than the Diameter Suggests

Forty millimeters across, 12.5mm thick, 44.6mm lug to lug, and 156 grams on a triple-link steel bracelet with a fold-over clasp and hidden pushers. That weight is the giveaway – the case is faceted and satin-finished rather than fully polished, and there is 200m of water resistance behind a solid screw-down caseback stamped with the Blue Angels insignia. Anti-reflective sapphire up front, which Citizen does not always fit at this level.

The Bottom Line

This is for someone who wants the aviation-chronograph look without a 44mm slab on a 6.5-inch wrist. The colorway is loud on purpose – blue bezel, yellow scale, black registers – so if you want something quiet, look at the plain Navihawk references instead. If the Blue Angels connection is the reason you are here, the insignia caseback and the special-edition packaging are the point.

CITIZEN released its first-ever watch, a mechanical pocket watch, in 1924.  They were also the first to create quartz crystal and unveiled the CRYSTRON SOLAR CELL in 1976. This was the world's first commercial light-powered analogue quartz watch that was the foundation for Citizen's iconic Eco-Drive technology.  Citizen’s diverse portfolio of watches is accessibly priced and ranges from professional-grade, sport-inspired designs with advanced functions to sophisticated, timeless silhouettes that are beautiful as well as collectible.
