Caravelle revived the 1969 Devil Diver and didn’t mess it up. The Sea Hunter packs 200m water resistance and a Miyota 8215 automatic into a wearable 39mm case. The gold-tone finish and green dial combo is surprisingly versatile.
About The Product
Caravelle 44B128: The Devil Diver Returns
In 1969, Caravelle released the Devil Diver—named for its unusual 666-foot depth rating and devilishly good looks. Fifty-five years later, they brought it back as the Sea Hunter, and the good news: they didn’t ruin it.
Vintage Done Right
The 44B128 keeps what made the original work: the coin-edge bezel, calypso-style hands (spade hour, sword minute), and that distinctive green dial with fauxtina lume that leans vintage without looking forced. The 39mm case is slightly larger than the original 35mm, which makes sense—wrist preferences have changed. What hasn’t changed is the tool-watch DNA: screw-down crown, unidirectional bezel, and 200m water resistance.
The Movement: Miyota 8215
Inside sits the Miyota 8215, a 21-jewel automatic with 42 hours of power reserve. It’s not fancy, but it’s proven—millions of these movements have been running reliably for decades. The hand-winding has that slightly crunchy feel Miyota fans know well. For a sub-$400 diver, you’re not doing better.
Honest Trade-offs
The mineral crystal instead of sapphire is the obvious cost cut, though the domed shape adds to the vintage aesthetic. The lume—while beautifully fauxtina in daylight—won’t win any brightness contests. And the finishing is industrial-grade, exactly what you’d expect at this price. These are fair compromises for what you’re getting.
Who This Is For
Worn & Wound called this a “potential Seiko SKX successor,” which is high praise in watch circles. If you want a good-looking automatic diver with real heritage, solid specs, and a price that doesn’t require justification—the Sea Hunter delivers. The gold-tone finish on this 44B128 makes it bolder than the standard steel variants. A conversation starter that can actually go swimming.
