The GA-100 brought analog hands to G-Shock’s digital world, and the 1A2’s blue accents against matte black resin make it one of the best-looking versions. Velocity indicator, 200m water resistance, Super Illuminator LED, and the kind of toughness Casio has been perfecting since 1983.

G-Shock GA100-1A2: The Analog-Digital That Started a Movement

The G-Shock GA100-1A2 is one of those watches that earned its place through sheer competence. Released in 2010, the GA-100 series brought analog hands to G-Shock’s digital world and it just worked. The 1A2 variant adds blue accents against matte black resin, giving it enough visual punch to stand out without trying too hard. This is G-Shock doing what G-Shock does best—building something you can forget about worrying over.

The Velocity Indicator

The GA100’s signature feature is its 1/1000-second stopwatch with a digital tachymeter that calculates and displays speed on the secondary digital screen. Casio calls it the Velocity Indicator, and it works. Start the chronograph, stop it after a known distance, and the watch does the math. The three-dial face design—one analog center dial flanked by two digital displays—gives you a lot of information without feeling cluttered.

Built Like You’d Expect

The 51.2mm case is pure resin over a shock-resistant structure with magnetic resistance and the standard 200m water resistance. At 70 grams, it wears lighter than it looks. The Super Illuminator LED with afterglow lights up the entire dial—not just a corner of it. Module 5081 powers everything, running on a CR1220 battery with roughly two years of life.

World Time and Daily Driver Features

Beyond the stopwatch, you get world time across 48 cities and 29 time zones, a countdown timer, five daily alarms with snooze, and a full auto-calendar programmed through 2099. The 12/24-hour format toggle is there for anyone who prefers military time. It covers every practical function without overcomplicating things.

Who This Is For

The GA100-1A2 is for someone who wants a capable daily beater that can handle anything from yard work to travel. The blue accents keep it from being another all-black G-Shock, and the analog hands make time-checking faster than squinting at a purely digital display. If you want something tougher to break than your habits, this is the one.

G-Shock, short for Gravitational Shock, first launched in 1983 after Casio engineer, Kikuo Ibe conceptualized a watch that could have a battery life of 10 years, be water resistance up to 100 meters, and survive a 10 meters drop.  Originally intended as a high-priced specialty item, G-Shocks are now considered to highly regarded collector-worthy timepieces.
