Casio’s first mechanical watch—and they didn’t mess it up. The EFK100D uses a reliable Seiko NH35, wraps it in a forged-carbon-textured dial, and finishes the bracelet better than the price suggests. Motorsport vibes without being corny about it.
About The Product
Casio EFK100D-2A: Casio Finally Goes Mechanical
After decades of quartz dominance, Casio decided to build a mechanical watch. The EFK100D marks their first foray into automatic movements, and rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, they made smart choices. Seiko’s NH35 inside, proven quality outside.
The Forged Carbon Dial
Edifice has always leaned into motorsport aesthetics, and the EFK100D commits fully. The blue dial uses electroforming to recreate the texture of forged carbon—the material you see on supercar hoods and steering wheels. It works better than it should. Add a brushed chapter ring, an azzurage pattern layer, and skeletonized hands with luminous tips, and you’ve got a dial that rewards closer inspection.
The NH35 Choice
Casio didn’t try to develop their own movement for this debut. The Seiko NH35 handles hacking and hand-winding, runs at 21,600 vph, and delivers a 40-hour power reserve. Casio quotes -35/+45 seconds daily—conservative numbers; most units run tighter. The exhibition caseback shows off the rotor, which watch people appreciate and everyone else ignores.
Build Quality That Surprises
At 39mm with a 12.4mm thickness, the case wears larger than specs suggest due to fixed center links pushing lug-to-lug to around 49mm. The bracelet punches above its class—individual links get different finishes (brushed tops, polished bevels), and the milled clasp feels substantial. Sapphire crystal up front, 100m water resistance. The weak point? Lume. It’s minimal and fades fast.
Who It’s For
Someone who wants Casio reliability in a mechanical package. The GT-car-enthusiast angle is real but not forced—this works as a daily watch whether you care about motorsport or not. At this price with sapphire, an exhibition caseback, and bracelet quality that competes with watches costing twice as much, Casio made a strong first statement.
